The View from the Car Park
The view from most car parks is usually pretty dull. Even in the middle of the highlands of Scotland car parks are often situated out of the way or hidden among trees. There are, however, some notable exceptions. For instance here is the view from the car park you would use to walk the Quiraing on Skye.
The view is looking almost directly west towards Staffin Bay and takes in the Qiraing on the left, all the way around to Loch Leurn na Luirginn, Loch Cleat and the crags of Dun Dubh on the right. I think you will agree that it's quite the view!
I'm sure I've been told this before... but do you stitch photos together to make the panorama? What software do you use?
Hi Ian, yeah I use some clever software to make the panoramas (doing it by hand would be more trouble than even I could be bothered with).
I'm currently using a free tool from Microsoft called ICE. I've blogged about the the tool before so there are some details here. ICE is really easy to use assuming the photos have enough overlap (about 20% to be on the safe side), but if you need more control then you should probably look at using the panorama tools with a GUI like PTAssembler (details in the same blog post as ICE).
Once you have the (very) large image I then use the free version of Zoomify to cut it into tiles so that it can be displayed on the web. Zoomify is a flash object but if you don't like flash then you could also look at Seadragon AJAX which is a JavaScript library for doing the same thing.
