The World's Greatest Car Chase

It is now just a fortnight until the first F1 race of the season. This year in the UK the coverage has switched back to the BBC after 12 years on ITV (I've blogged about this before so I won't repeat myself).

Anyway, to advertise the start of the season and their coverage the BBC have put together this trailer in which they describe F1 as The World's Greatest Car Chase. The trailer is quite clever and does evoke the idea of a movie car chase. It's just a shame they used cars that look nothing like modern F1 cars. You can tell they aren't real F1 cars just by the crystal clear view the drivers get in their wing-mirrors!

I Wonder What Is Going On?

I'm not sure what is going on over the road. There is both an ITV calendar news van and a Real Radio SUV parked just outside the house (sorry about the poor quality photo but I didn't want to get too close and combine this with shivering in the cold holding the camera still enough became tricky).

If I manage to figure out what is going on I'll let you know. I'm assuming it will turn out to be dull as they seem to be concentrating on a house with lots of Christmas lights and there isn't any Police cars so I doubt it's anything serious.

Cadfael and Robin Hood

I'm confused. I thought Cadfael helped hunt out murderers in Shrewsbury during the first half of the 12th century, while Robin Hood robbed from the rich to give to the poor around Nottingham in the second half of the 12th century.

If ITV and the BBC are to be believed, however, it would seem that Shrewsbury Abbey and Nottingham Castle are actual the same building!

In reality of course it just happens that both TV series were filmed on location in Hungary. Apparently it is one of the few places where you can pretend it is still 12th century England.

Classic TV

ITV have recently (at least I only recently found out) started making all four of their channels available almost live on their website. Whilst this may turn out to be useful, especially as I can't get the other three channels where I live (no freeview signal!), I'm more impressed with their Best of ITV section.

In essence they are allowing us to watch some of the best dramas they have previously funded. So for example you can watch the first series of Cracker, Cold Feet, Cadfael and many more whenever you want! While the quality may not be such that they would be watchable on a TV screen they are perfect for watching on the PC while pretending to work.

Even in the week or so since I found the site they have added new content so hopefully they will continue adding more and more great British dramas for us to watch. Unfortunately it seems they are currently only providing the first series of each drama, although hopefully this will change in the future.
